J. LEISE DIES SATURDAY AFTER SUFFERING A STROKE Wynot - Funeral services for Mrs. John Leise, 63, who died Saturday in Sacred Heart hospital in Yankton a week after she suffered a stroke were held Wednesday morning form St. Phillip and James church at St. James with Rev. Godfrey Meiergard officiating at the requiem mass. Burial will be made at a later date in the parish cemetery under the direction of Wintz Mortuary. Interment was postponed pending word from Pvt. Leonard Leise who is in the Far East. Pallbearers were Leonard Leise of Randolph, Clarence Peitz of Colome, SD., Fritz Schulte of Harvard, Leo Arens of Hartington, and Vincent Bruening and Richard Leise of Wynot. Bernadine, daughter of Fred and Anna Peitz, was born June 5, 1889 near Bow Valley and she spent her entire life in the Bow Valley and Wynot communities. She was married to John Leise June 14, 1910 and he died in October of 1944. They farmed a few miles south of St. James and after her husband’s death, she continued to operate the farm with the aid of her sons. Mrs. Leise had been in poor health for several years due to a heart ailment. Her mother, Mrs. Anna Peitz, died three weeks ago and a brother, Leo died in May making three deaths in the family in less than six months. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Amelia Lammers, and Mrs. Teresa Gubbels of Hartington; seven sons, Albert of Norfolk, Anton of Hartington, Frank of St. Helena, Pvt. Leonard Leise on duty in the far East, and Walter, Norbert and Johnny at home, one brother, William Peitz of Colome, SD., six sisters, Mrs. Ottoa Schulte of Colome, SD., Mrs. George Goodman of Aberdeen, Sd., Mrs. Joe Bruening, Mrs. Casper Schulte, Cecelia and Frances Peitz all of Wynot. Pvt. Leonard Leise was contacted and he has been expected home. He had been on leave here early in October before leaving for overseas duty.
