Services were August 24 at the Wintz Funeral Home, Crofton, with Rev. Jim Novotny officiating. Burial was in the Crofton City Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ted Hillman, Keith Merchen, Keith Kool, Ryan McCabe, Kyle McCabe, Galen Zimmerman and Bill Korth. Jim was born July 19, 1913, to John and Anna (Finnegan) McCabe at Crofton. He married Edna Hamann May 31, 1937, in Chester, Mont. She died July 25, 1987. Jim grew up and lived in the Crofton area most of his life. He graduated from crofton High School and was involved in many business ventures including operating a cafe in Crofton. He also owned and operated several businesses in Lindy. He returned to Crofton in 1953 and worked in the road maintenancne department. He served as a Knox County supervisor for 16 years and served as Chairman of that board for five years. He was also a former member of the Crofton Volunteer Fire Department. Survivors include three sons and their spouses, Richard and Lou McCabe, Columbus, Texas; Robert and Sherry McCabe, Littleton, Colo.; Michael and Patty McCabe, Lindsay; 15 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife; a daughter, Carol Schieffer; a brother, Martin McCabe; and four sisters, Mary McCabe, Kate Hilfiker, Frances Voss and Esther Dykstra.
