McCoy was the second Cedar county resident to die within four days in two wrecks within a 17-mile stretch. On the previous Monday night Mrs. Charles Goodman, 44-year-old Randolph resident, was killed one mile east of Randolph. McCoy's car sideswiped a Boyd county truck, driven by Bert Prockos of Verdel. Prockos escaped injury. Wreckage of McCoy's car was scattered 200 yards along the hiway. The Hartington man's head was crushed and his abdomen severely gashed. Also uninjured was Joe Martin, 16-year-old youth of Butte, who was riding with Prockos. Fifty hogs in the truck were scattered about the road, but none were killed. The truck was damaged to the extent of $300. Surviving are his widow, the former Miss Irene Asbra of Hartington and his daughter, Phyllis, five-years-old. Francis T. McCoy was born October 29, 1910, at Dixon, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank McCoy. He was married June 5, 1933, to Miss Irene Asbra, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Asbra of Hartington. The couple was married at Sacred Heart church in Wynot. His parents, with his wife and daughter, survive. He also leaves two sisters, Margaret and Anna Mae, five brothers, John, Mark, William, Joe and Ray, all of Hartington. He was graduated from the eight grade at Lone Valley school near Obert and later attended Hartington High school. Later he farmed ten miles southeast of Hartington. Although Mr. McCoy was a member of the East Bow parish, funeral services were conducted Saturday morning at Holy Trinity church in Hartington with the Reifert funeral home in charge of arrangements. The Rev. Marcel Kelliher, pastor of St. Mary's Catholic church in Laurel, conducted services. Burial was made at St. Michaels's cemetery. Pallbearers were...
