Novotny (Photo) HARTINGTON -- Frank E. Novotny, 96, died April 10, 2000, at the Park View Haven Nursing Home, Coleridge. Services were April 17, 2000, at First Congregational U.C.C., Hartington, with Rev. Robert Neu officiating, with visitation one hour prior to services. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Pender. Pallbearers were David Thompson and Gerald Bobenmoyer. Honorary pallbearers were Martin Novotny, Dr. D.J. Nagengast and Roger Harold. Frank was born Oct. 29, 1903, in Richland, Neb., to Jacob Frank and Mary (Hamata) Novotny; grandson of Joseph and Marie (Hvezda) Hamata and Frank and Anna (Wackal) Novotny. He married Edith Fern Marks, daughter of Charles Bennett and Wilma Eunice (Eaton) Marks, Aug. 22, 1929, in Sioux City, Iowa. She died June 1, 1985. In his lifetime he went from horse drawn travel to the model "T", to jet airplanes and men walking on the moon. He broke horses, flew airplanes, built cars, and was a rancher until he moved to Hartington in 1936 with his father-in-law to run the Hotel Hartington. He was a bee keeper on the side for most of his life, and was a state bee inspector in the 1950s. He was a member of the Sioux Honey Association for forty years. He was a member of the First Congregational U.C.C. in Hartington. Survivors include his daughter, Jeannine M. Larson, Hartington; two granddaughters and spouse, Jacki A. and Roger Harold, Hartington; and Connie C. and David Thompson, Decatur, Ala. a great-grandson, a great- great-grandson; and a sister, Bess E. Price (99 years old), Columbus. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers, Louise and George; a sister, Julia; and a son-in-law, Leonard M. Larson.
