Olsen Rites Friday Services Held From Trinity Lutheran ---------- Funeral services for Carl Ferdinand Olsen, 80, who died at his home in the Paragon community May 3 [1949], following a stroke were held from Trinity Lutheran church here Friday at 2 o'clock with Rev. O.L. Levorson officiating. Burial was made in the Paragon cemetery under the direction of Jones-Smith Funeral Home. Pallbearers were: Dwaine, LeRoy, Franklin and Donald Olsen, James Beacom and Allen Riibe. Carl Ferdinand, son of Bernard and Andrena Olsen, was born January 12, 1869, at Painted Creek, near Lansing in Allamakee county, Ia., and came with his parents in the same year to Cedar county were they settled on the farm where he continued to live the remainder of his life. He was united in marriage to Maren O. Olsen December 20, 1895. To this union two sons and one daughter were born. Mr. Olsen was a charter member of the first Lutheran congregation in Cedar county. Almost 80 years ago the first service was held in his father's home and three years later the first congregation was organized there. This first congregation later became the present Trinity Lutheran church. The old Olsen home stood on the site now occupied by the present Olsen residence. As an early pioneer he played an important part in the history of the Paragon comnunity and the church. He is survived by two sons, William A. of Hartington, and Allen L. of China Lake, Calif.; six grandchildren; one great grandchild; and three brothers, O.W. Olsen of San Diego, Calif., and Julius and Cornelus Olsen of Hartington. Mrs. Olsen died November 23, 1940 and a daughter Mrs. Otis (Amelia) Weiger died during the first World War.
