ELVINA PORTER SUCCUMBS ON SATURDAY RESIDENT OF CEDAR COUNTY FOR HALF A CENTURY IS BURIED TUESDAY Wynot - Mrs. Elvina Porter resident of this vicinity for the past half century died at her home here Saturday evening after a lingering illness. She was 79 years old. Funeral services were held at the home Tuesday afternoon with Rev. E.T. Antrim of Pierce officiating. Pallbearers were three grandsons, Harold, Elmer, jr., and Jay Parks and Merritt Smith, A.W. Jones and P.H. Lauritzen. Burial was in the Wynot Cemetery under the direction of the Wynot funeral home. Elvina Niece, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Niece, was born near Filmore, Mo., October 9th, 1860. She was married in Missouri to W.M. Parks. Four children of this union survive their mother. They are Dan B. Parks, and Mrs. Edna Konegni of Wynot, Elmer Parks of Hartington, and Richard Parks of Baltimore, Md., Another son, Fred passed away in 1902. After the death of her husband, Mrs. Parks came with her family to Cedar county, and to this vicinity in June of 1890. In 1893 she was married to Thomas Porter, who preceded her in death on May 8, 1914. Mrs. Porter has been a resident here since 1890 with the exception of three years spent in Arkansas. Besides three sons and one daughter surviving, there are 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Two sisters and one brother also survive. They are Mrs. Sadie Bacon of Los Angeles, Mrs. Samantha Ketchum of Brighton, Mich., and Carl Niece who is in Canada. Mrs. Porter was active in the work of the Methodist church and its Ladies Aid until her health failed. Her family is quite a military record. Her husband was a civil war veteran, two sons Dan and Richard Parks have each served 30 years in the army and navy, each now being retired. Another son Fred was a Spanish American war veteran, who died of measles and complications on his way to the Phillipines. Five grandsons, John, Lloyd, Arthur, Edward and Merlin Konegni have each served an enlistment in the army and three other grandsons, Harold, Elmer and Jay Parks are members of Company F, Nebraska National Guard. Her father was a civil war veteran and one brother was a Spanish-American War veteran.
