Visitation was Sept. 22, 1999, at the Wintz Funeral Home, Crofton. Funeral services were held Sept. 23, 1999, at Congregational United Church of Christ, Crofton, with Rev. Gary Kimm officiating. Burial was in the Crofton City Cemetery. Pallbearers were Bruce Sage, Roger Sage, Darrell Sage Dale Sage, Doyle Sage, Jody Sage, Jeff Sage, and Danny Sage. Honorary pallbearers were Gary Evans, Steve Kuchler, Dave Abbott, Dwight Sterk, Ron Florke and Rick Coughlin. George was born July 22, 1928, to George Benjamin and Kitty Pearl (Barnt) Sage in Holiday, Mo. On June 23, 1951, he married Beverly Hill in Vermillion, S.D. He grew up in the Lindy area and moved to Crofton in 1964. He and his brothers operated Sage Sand and Gravel and then he and his son Bill operated it until he retired about ten years ago. He enjoyed going to Adult Day in Yankton, S.D. with his wife and being with his family and grandchildren. Survivors include: his wife, Beverly, Crofton; two children: Bill Sage, Crofton; Marilyn and Jerry Nelson, Crofton; three grandchildren: Brandon Nelson, Crofton; Jordan Nelson, Crofton and Morgan Nelson, Crofton; a sister-in law, Betty Sage, Yankton, S.D.; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Don and David Sage; a sister-in-law, Doris Sage and an infant niece, Mary Jane Sage.
