Schmidt, 70, Menominee died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 1999, at Avera McKennan Hospital, Sioux Falls, S.D. from complications of a stroke. Funeral services were Oct. 30 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Menominee with Fr. Gregory Benkowski officiating. Burial was in the St. Boniface Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ted Schmidt, Michael Schmidt, Willard Schmidt, Steven Schmidt, Russell Schmidt and Danny Lammers. Stanley was born July 12, 1929, to Ted and Mary (Meyer) Schmidt, Yankton, S.D. He grew up and attended school in Menominee. As a young man he farmed with his parents and also worked in Alaska. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. On July 12, 1954, he married Margaret Ann Suing at St. Helena. They farmed in Nebraska and later at Princeton, Minn. from 1957 to 1966. They then returned to a farm north of Menonminee, where he farmed with his sons. He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, serving as a trustee, was a 50 year member of the Catholic Foresters, and a member of the Holy Name Society. He enjoyed his grandchildren, playing cards and polka music. Survivors include his wife, Margaret, Menominee; children, Ted and Paula Schmidt, Menominee; Leah and John Schreurs, Glenrock,Wyo., Michael and Debbie Schmidt, Marshall, Minn.; Willard and Karen Schmidt, Yankton, S.D.; Steven and Shelli Schmidt, Mission Hill, S.D.; Russell and Tracy Schmidt, Menominee and Arlene Schmidt, Yankton; 18 grandchildren; brother, Virgil Schmidt, Menominee; sisters: Lugardis Bonertz, York, Anna Mae Zimmerman, Tyndall, S.D. Imogene Tramp, Crofton. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Mary Ann; and sister, Darlene Lammers. Wednesday, Nov. 3, 1999-CEDAR COUNTY NEWS
