This file was contributed for use in the NEGenWeb Archives by Carol Tramp Permission granted by: Rob Dump, Editor, Cedar County News ====================================================================== THE CEDAR COUNTY NEWS - July 13, 1939 Fordyce Woman 95 years old, Succumbs Katherine Schumucker will lived in county 47 years; Buried Wednesday Mrs. Katherine Schumucker, 95, resident of Cedar County since 1892, died in a Yankton hospital Sunday afternoon about 2:30 PM after a serious operation. She had been ill several days. Katherine Wieben Schumucker, the daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Anton Wieben, was born April 26, 1854 at Westphalia, Germany. She came to America with her husband Casper Shumucker, in September 1892, settling near St. Helena. The couple lived there for 30 years before moving to Fordyce. Mr. Schumucker died at Fordyce in 1930. Eight children came to America with the Schumuckers. They are Mrs. Joseph Boemer, and Mrs. Henry Bonertz of St. Helena, Joseph, Casper, and Frank Shumucker of Fordyce; Anton, Henry, and Theodore Schumucker of Texas. Funeral services were Wednesday morning at 9:00 O'clock from St. John's Catholic church, the Rev. Daniel Reifenrath officiating. Pallbearers were grandsons of Mrs. Schumucker, and Edward Thoene, Arnold Suing, Joseph Klug, Herbert Becker, Bruno Bonertz, and Ervin Boehmer.
