Visitation was Aug. 9 at the Wintz Funeral Home, Crofton. Funeral services were Aug. 10 at United Church of Christ-Congregational Church, Crofton, with Rev. Gary Kimm officiating. Burial was in the Crofton City Cemetery, Crofton. Pallbearers were Dr. Darin Kotil, Arlan Hoebelheinrich, Adam Hoebelheinrich, Randy Leader, Ryan Leader, Jim Fiegge, Randy Swartz, Stephan Wakeley, Branden Reinpold and Tyler Reinpold. Honorary pallbearers were the We-Fu Extension Club. Vera was born Feb. 23, 1909, to Gust and Ella (Lukens) Johnson, in Crofton. She married G. Allen Wakeley Jan. 25, 1935. He died Jan. 12, 1988. Vera grew up in the Crofton area and attended country school. She and Allen farmed south of Crofton until 1963, when they retired and moved into Crofton. She worked at Gurney's in Yankton, S.D., and was then a cook at the Crofton High School for several years. She was a former member of Hurst-Stafford Methodist Church, south of Crofton. She became a member of the United Church of Christ in 1977. Vera was a member of the U.C.C, Ladies Aide and WeFu Extension Club for over 3O years. She was named Homemaker of the Year, and was very active, in the Crofton Senior Citizens Center. She also played in the Senior Citizens Kitchen Band. She received great joy from her entire family. Survivors include four children and spouses, Shirleen and Roger Kotil, David City; Leon and Pat Wakeley, Crofton; Lyle and Janice Wakeley, Scottsbluff, Gerald and Mary Wakeley, Norfolk; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Merl (Cecil) Johnson, Bloomfield; Mrs. Floyd (Golda) Johnson, Salem, Ore.; and a brother-in- law, Frank Buschkmap, Crofton. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Merl and Floyd; a sister, Goldie Hadley; and a great-granddaughter, Cortney Ann.
