Wiedenfeld, 78, died Friday, March 12, 1999, at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton, S.D. Visitation was March 15, at the Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington. Funeral services were March 16 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Hartington, with Rev. William Sanderson officiating. Burial was in St. Michael's Cemetery, Hartington, with Military Services conducted by the Newcastle American Legion Post #62. Pallbearers were Chris, Dan, Terry and Brett Wiedenfeld; Jeff Guenther, Jason Trenhaile, Bryan Tucker and Pat Muhs. Honorary pallbearers were Ervin Noecker, Dennis Kollars, Arnold Anderson, Melbert Rasmussen, Gerald Seim, John Grindvoid, Lloyd Pedersen and Lawrence LUX. Raymond was born March 20, 1920, to Henry and Catherine (Koch) Wiedenfeld in Newcastle. He grew up on a farm 13 miles east of Hartington and graduated from Maskell High School in 1936. He attended Wayne State College for two years and also obtained his pilot's license at this time. He taught school for two years at Lime Grove School, before he enlisted in the service. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943-1945 primarily in Seattle, Wash. He married Dorothy Steffen July 16, 1946, in Hartington. He taught school at the Mayflower School east of Hartington for several years. He then farmed east of Hartington until he retired and moved into town in 1985. He was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Hartington; a Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus and the Newcastle American Legion Post #62. Past offices and memberships include secretary-treasurer of the Maskell Fire District; a 4-H leader: ASCS County Committeeman; a member of the St. Peter's Catholic Church parish council, Newcastle; the church choir and taught CCD. He was also a board member of the Tara Hill School District. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy, Hartington; four children, Jerry and Connie Wiedenfeld, Hartington; Sharon and Richard Boehmer, Newcastle; Carol and Ken Guenther, Yankton, S.D.; and Mark and Patty Wiedenfeld, Hartington; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Irvin Wiedenfeld, Hartington; and one sister, Mrs. Leonard (Frances) Gilbertson, North Hills, Calif.
