Visitation was Dec. 21 at Wintz Funeral Home, Crofton. Mass of Christian Burial will be Dec. 22 at St. Rose of Lima Church, Crofton, at 10:30 a.m., with Rev. Bob English officiating. Burial will be at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Crofton. Pallbearers will be John Hegge, Gary Schieffer, Mike Rye, Mike Murphy, David Wortmann, Pat Wortmann, and Jeff Wortmann. Honorary pallbearers will be Romaine Becker, Elvera Kathol, Ann Wortmann, Dorothy Guenther, Delores Foxhoven, Sr. Ethel Sprakel, Karen Guenther, Lois Leader and Marie Kube. Rose was born Jan. 10, 1909, to August and Anna (Schnieder) Gohman in Constance. She married Henry Wortmann Nov. 24, 1930, in Constance. He died Aug. 9,1991. Rose grew up in the Constance area. After her marriage, She and her husband farmed north of Crofton until March of 1964 when they retired and built a house along highway 121 on the south edge of their farm. They sold live bait and garden produce until 1985 when poor health caused them to retire. She has been a resident of the Yankton Care Center since Jan. 1993. She was a member of the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Crofton, Christian Mothers and Catholic Daughters of America. Survivors include eight children and spouses, Joan Hegge, Crofton; Lucille and Richard Rye, Sioux Falls, S.D.; Jerry and Jeanne Wortmann, Tabor, S.D.; Jim and Mary Ann Wortmann, Crofton; Richard and Nancy Wortmann, Crofton; Del Rae and Anthony Schieffer, Columbus; Robert and Barbara Wortmann, Norfolk; Judith and Patrick Murphy, Sioux Falls, S.D.; 38 grandchildren, and 56 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; seven brothers and sisters; one son-in-law, Elmer Hegge; and one grandson, Paul Wortmann.
