Auch FREMONT - John W. Auch, 82, Fremont, formerly of Colon and Wahoo areas, died Aug. 1, 2001, at Arbor Manor, Fremont. Visitation was Aug. 5 at Ludvigsen Mortuary, Fremont. Services were Aug. 6 at the First Lutheran Church, Fremont. Burial, with military honors by the American Legion Post 265 of Colon, followed in Memorial Cemetery, Fremont. John was born Feb. 10, 1919, to William and Dora (Harder) Auch at Bennington. He lived in the Bennington and Irvington areas until moving with his family to Fremont at the age of 12. John graudated from Carey High School in Saunders County. He served in the United States Army from 1943-1946. John was the recipient of the Philippine Liberation Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, the Asiatic Pacific Theater Services Medal, the Victory Medal, American Theater Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. John was married to Edna Korff Feb. 26, 1951, in Hartington at Trinity Lutheran Church. After returning to the Fremont area, John farmed for a year west of Fremont, and then moved to a farm near Colon in Saunders County. He retired and moved into Fremont in 1991. John was a member of American Legion Post 265 of Colon and the Fremont Eagles Aerie 200. Survivors include a daughter and spouse, Kathleen A. and Eugene Vodehnal, Comstock; grandson, Travis JOhn Vodehnal, Comstock; two step-granddaughters, Tami Vodehnal and Tawnya Johnson; a brother and spouse, Robert and Shirley Auch, rural Fremont; two sisters, Marian Anderson, Fremont, and Lois and her husband, Ray Steinbach, Fremont. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna, June 3, 2001, and his parents.
