HENRY BACKMAN DIES ON LAST FRIDAY AGED RESIDENT OF ST. JAMES SUCCUMBS TO LONG ILLNESS AT HER HOME Following an illness which has extended over the last year and a half Mrs. Henry Backman, one of the beloved pioneers of Cedar county, passed away last Friday afternoon at her home in St. James. Mrs. Backman has been a resident of the county for the past 53 years, and her going is mourned by the many friends she has made. About 53 years ago she was married to Mr. Backman at Menominee, and they homesteaded near there after their marriage. Thirteen children were born to this union, eleven of whom together with Mr. Backman survive. They are Mrs. Henry Klug, Ed, Louis and Jacob all of Wynot, Mrs. A.T. Duman, Mrs. Andy Faulk, and Miss Josephine Backman, all of Hartington, Mrs. Bruno Pinkelman of Obert, Mrs. Earl Wagers of Grand Island, and Mrs. Marvin Rosenberg of Fremont and Barney of Bow Valley; a brother and a sister who live in Iowa were unable to attend the funeral. All but Mrs. Rosenberg were here. Funeral services were held last Monday morning from the St. James Church and were conducted by Rev. Father Hunkler. Interment was in the cemetery at St. James.
