Becker (PHOTO) ST. HELENA - Claude I. Becker, 99, Yankton, S.D., formerly of St. Helena, died Jan. 26, 2001, at Avera Sister James Nursing Home, Yankton, S.D. Visitation was Jan. 28 at the Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington. Mass of Christian Burial was Jan. 29 at Holy Family (Immaculate Conception) Catholic Church, St. Helena, with Monsignor Cyril Werner officiating. Burial was in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, St. Helena. Pallbearers were Matthew Hans, Dan Albrecht, Chris Hans, Joe Stappert, Bryce Lund and Jude Backman. Claude was born Oct. 7, 1901, to Bernard and Martha (Lammers) Becker in St. Helena. He married Theresa Wieseler Jan. 25, 1926, in St. Helena. She died April 25, 1959. He married Lucina Boehmer Lammers at St. Helena Oct. 5, 1959. She died June 5, 1990. He grew up and lived in the St. Helena area where he farmed until 1955. He moved to the Benet Hall in Yankton, S.D., in 1990. He had been a resident of Avera Sister James Nursing Home since 1996. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, St. Helena, and was a former member of the Knights of Columbus and Legion of Mary. Survivors include, six daughters and spouses, Loretta Albrecht, Yankton; Joan Becker, Omaha; Jean Hans, St. Helena; Claudette and Charles Stappert, Bow Valley; Marilyn and Loren Lund, Bassett; Jeri and Marcel Backman, Wynot; 31 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren; a step-daughter and spouse, Romaine and Joe Wieseler, St. Helena; a brother, Ludwig Becker, Lincoln; a sister, Clara Hochstein, Hartington. He was preceded in death by his parents; both wives; a daughter, LouAnn Kline; a grandson, Gerard Hans; four brothers, Marcus, Albert, Rudolph and Bruno Becker; and three sisters, Agatha Leise, Ida Boeckman and Monica Becker.
