THOMAS, Editor, YANKTON PRESS & DAKOTAN ====================================================================== YANKTON PRESS & DAKOTAN PIONEER RESIDENT BURIED SATURDAY Funeral services for Sanford Boyles, 86 were conducted Saturday afternoon from the Dotson chapel with Rev. Harold W. Wagar officiating and music was furnished by Mr. A.G. Wright. Burial was beside his wife in Riverside Cemetery. Sanford B. Boyles was born in Dalla County, Iowa July 9, 1856, and died at the local hospital August 26, 1942. He was married to Estella (Stella) Gregg at Sloan, Iowa in the ‘70’s who preceded him in death eight years ago. Mr. Boyle came to South Dakota in 1890 locating at Vermillion where he operated a sawmill. He lived at Brooky Bottom from that time period to after 1900 where he operated a saw mill also. In 1926 he came to Pierre where he has lived since. He was a member of IOOF lodge in his younger days. Six children survive him, one son died in the service of his country in 1918. Those remaining are: Mrs. Martin Martensen of Fairmont, Mn., Mrs. Lewis Smith of Gayville, Mrs. Hans Jepsen of Meckling, Frank, Jess and Allen of Pierre. There are eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Archie Whiteman, Frank Kirley, Sam Howard, Lee Howard, Pete Biewer and Leon Walters.
