Bruening (PHOTO) ST. HELENA - Scott P. Bruening, 18, St. Helena, died Sept 23, 2001, at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton, S.D. Visitation was held Sept. 25 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Hartington, with a vigil service held later that evening at Holy Family (Immaculate Conception) Catholic Church, St. Helena. There will also be visitation Sept. 26 from 9:30 a.m. to service time at Holy Family (Immaculate Conception) Catholic Church under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington. Mass of Christian Burial will be in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, St. Helena. Pallbearers will be Bryan Bruening, Joey Bruening, Chris Bruening, Nick Stout, Adam Pinkelman, Jody Pinkelman, Carl Pinkelman and Jeff Tramp. Honorary pallbearers will be the senior class at Cedar Catholic High School. Scott was born April 7, 1983, in Yankton S.D., to Duane J. and Donna M. (Bonertz) Bruening. Scott grew up in the St. Helena area and was a senior at Cedar Catholic High School. He participated in basketball and football in junior high and was a member of the Hartington FFA. He loved to hunt with his dog "Buddy," fish and build bird houses. He played baseball for St. Helena. He was a member of the Holy Family (Immaculate Conception) Catholic Church, St. Helena, and was a Mass server. Survivors include his parents, Duane and Donna Bruening, St. Helena; one sister and her fiancee, Kim Bruening, St. Helena, and Paul Howey, Hartington; one brother, Mitchell Bruening, at home; his maternal grandparents, Bill and Bernadette Bonertz, Wynot; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Paul and Helen Bruening; one uncle, Gary Bruening; and one cousin, Chad Bonertz.
