Burbach Child birth causes the death of young mother – funeral is held Wednesday The death of Mrs. J.H. Burbach, a young mother saddened many homes in Cedar County when word of her death was received early Monday morning. The cause of Mrs. Burbach’s death was convulsions after the birth of a daughter. Mary Reuter, daughter of Jos. Reuter, an early pioneer family in this region, was born in Cedar county on October 1, 1890. She grew to womanhood in the Bow Valley vicinity and after completing her school work, she took a course at the Wayne State Teachers College and following this secured a school in the St. James vicinity, where she taught for one year. She was only 17 years of age at that time. After completing a successful year of teaching she remained at home taking care of her invalid mother until her death which occurred in March, 19 years ago. Two years later her father passed away. On January 7, 1927, Miss Reuter and J.H. Burbach of Hartington were united in marriage at the Holy Trinity parsonage with Father Ferd. Schnuettegen, performing the ceremony. The couple had arranged the wedding date to occur with a number of sevens predominating as they were wed at seven in the morning on January 7th, the year of 1927 and the bride was 37 years old. After their marriage the couple resided in Hartington with W.H. Burbach, Sr. and took care of him until his death in June. This spring, Mr. and Mrs. Burbach moved to a farm a short distance west of Hartington where they lived happily together. Mrs. Burbach was greatly beloved for her kindness and thoughtfulness of others and had devoted years of her life in the care of her parents. Mrs. Burbach had been in delicate health and for the past two weeks had not been very well. She had made preparations Sunday evening for the family washing to be done the following morning to be assisted by her sister, Mrs. Joe Boland. Sunday evening at midnight, she became ill, giving birth to a daughter. Convulsions developed and nothing could be done to save the mother, who passed away at 3 o’clock that morning. The survivors are her husband, J.H. Burbach, and infant daughter, Marietta, five brothers, William, Henry, Casper, all of Hartington. Joe of Wall, SD, and George of Bow Valley. and three sisters, Mrs. Martin Rameil, Mrs. Henry Boland, and Mrs. Henry Boland all of Hartington. Joe Reuter of Wall, SD was unable to come home as his son is seriously ill at that time. Funeral services were held on Wednesday morning at 9:30 o’clock from the Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Father J.T. Bernauer officiating. Interment was made in the St. Michael Cemetery. The pallbearers were John Rameil, Julius Burbach, Victor and Cyril Becker of Fordyce, and Anthony and Werner Burbach all being nephews. The honorary pallbearers were Mrs. Louis Burbach, Mrs. Joe Marx, Mrs. Nick Konz, Mrs. John T. Fleming, Mrs. John Roth, and Mrs. A.G. Eickhoff who are members of the Christian mothers Society. The late Mrs. Burbach held the office of secretary in that organization.
