Chamberlain was born in Marion County, West Virginia, in 1840 and departed this life at his home in Wynot Saturday, March 6, 1909 at 9 o’clock a.m. at the age of 68 years. His father was Josiah Chamberlain, a native of Wales, who immigrated to the United States and settled in West Virginia. Later they moved to Illinois and settled in Peoria County. The father died in Illinois and the mother in Ponca, Neb., at the age of 68, Robert Chamberlain left his home in Illinois and began life for himself, going to Poweshiek County, Iowa where he worked out on a farm and finally was married to Mrs. Jane Wilkins, a widow with two daughters. To the union was born five boys and three girls. Mr. Chamberlain moved his family from Iowa to Nebraska and settled on a homestead six miles southwest of Newcastle. After a few years residence there they moved to St. James where they have since resided until last fall, when they moved their home to Wynot so as to be near the children. The deceased was taken ill seven weeks ago, and has been gradually failing since then. His death removes another of the old settlers of northeast Nebraska. He was a kind husband and father, always cheerful and hopeful and his familiar figure will be missed in our midst. The widow ...
