Services were held at the Larkin Funeral home in Sioux City with Rev. Harvey Nelson of Whitfield Methodist church officiating. Bessie Brewer was born July 9, 1877 near Ponca. She was the daughter of early settlers who later moved to this community. She was one of a large family and the last member of a family of thirteen brothers and sisters. She died February 15 at a Sioux City Hospital after an illness of several months. She had lived in Sioux City for nineteen years. Survivors are four daughters, Mrs. Vern Smith, Mrs. Renny Hish, Mrs. Bessie McFadden and Mrs. Lucille Soknot, all of Sioux city; two sons, Leslie Washburn of Hot Springs, Ark., and Harold Washburn of Milwaukee; fourteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
