News April 26th, 1933 Hold Funeral rites for County Pioneer Interment of Mrs. Maria Cullen held at Wynot Saturday Funeral services were held in Wynot Saturday afternoon for Mrs. Maria Ferber Cullen, 90 years old, who died April 10th at her home in Ventura, Calif. She was one of Cedar County’s earliest settlers, having come here from Sioux City in 1864. The body accompanied by a son Ernest, arrived in Hartingotn Friday and was taken to the home of her daughter, Mrs. A.W. Jones of Wynot. Services were held from the Methodist church with Rev. E.T. Antrim of Plainveiw officiating. Music was presented by a male quartet. Two granddaughters Laura and Louise Jones were flower bearers and the pallbearers were three grandsons B.E. Jones of Laurel, Edward Jones of Wynot and Irvin Case of Platte, SD., and Lloyd, Lewis and John Jones of Wynot. Burial was in Wynot cemetery beside the body of her husband. Among the relatives and friends from nearby towns who attended the rites were Mr.and Mrs. John Sullivan, L. Clemenson, L.P. Lauritsen, Mr. and Mrs. John Fogelson, Mrs. Minor Harris, Mr. and Mrs. Steve Morten, all of Hartington. Ingabori Maria Soldorn was born in Denmark, August 5, 1842. coming to America when she was 22 years old, she worked in Sioux City for a time and then came out to Cedar County where she married Gustav Ferber. They lived on a farm south of St. James which she continued to operate after her husband’s death in 1878. Later she married Martin Cullen who died several years ago. Moving to Hartington in 1900, Mrs. Cullen later went to Ventura, Calif. in 1922. She has been in failing health for several years and for the past several months she has been bedfast. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. L.A. Case of Hartington, Mrs. A.W. Jones, and a son Ernest of Ventura, Cal. besides 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
