Cummins HARTINGTON - Dennis D. Cummins, 49, died Sept. 28, 1999, at his residence. Visitation was Sept. 29 at the Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington. Mass of Christian Burial was Sept. 30 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Hartington, with Rev. Stan Schmit officiating. Burial was in the Hartington City Cemetery, Hartington. Pallbearers were Steve Samelson, Allen Larsen, Randy Anderson, Rollie Becker, Jerry Leise and Nick Opfer. Honorary pallbearers were the employees of Terra in Hartington. Dennis was born March 28, 1950, to Dwayne A. and Virginia Cummins in Estherville, Iowa. He married Kathy Huss July 2, 1971, in Hartington. He moved to Hartington in 1961 and graduated from Hartington Public High School in 1968. He graduated from Northeast Technical Community College, Norfolk, in 1970. He returned to Hartington and worked as a carpenter for Rose and Opfer Construction until 1980, when he began farming. In 1988, he began DC Enterprises. He had worked for Terra Western since 1996. He also managed the Cedar County Raceway in Hartington from 1990 to 1996. Dennis was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church. He enjoyed his family, friends, racing, hunting and fishing. Survivors include his wife, Kathy, Hartington; two children, David and Stef Cummins, Sioux City, Iowa; and Amy Cummins, and friend, Darnell McCray, Lincoln; his mother, Virginia Cummins, Hartington: a sister, Mrs. Leon (Rita) Pedersen, Hartington; nieces and nephews.
