Visitation was May 11 at the Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington. A vigil service was held later that evening at Holy Family (Sts. Peter and Paul) Catholic Church, Bow Valley. Mass of Christian Burial was May 12 at Holy Family (Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Bow Valley, with Rev. Ross Burkhalter officiating. Burial was in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Bow Valley. Pallbearers were Sarah Becker, Jason Becker, Anthony Pinkelman, Dean Ebbinga, Dale Ebbinga, Ryan Steffen and Tom DeBlauw. Irene was born March 2, 1916 to Frank and Mary (Mueller) Steffen in Constance. On April 29, 1941, she married Anthony G. DeBlauw in Constance. He died Aug. 11, 1978 at the age of 61. Irene grew up in the Constance area and attended St. Joseph's Catholic School, Constance. She worked as a hired girl for mothers having babies and she also worked as a maid at the Crofton Hotel for two years. After her marriage they farmed near Crofton for six years and then farmed northeast of Hartington until moving to Pine Lane Assisted Living in Hartington in Dec., 1999. She was a member of Holy Family (Sts. Peter and Paul) Catholic Church, Bow Valley, Christian Mothers, Ministry of Praise and Christians Encounter Christ Prayer Group. Survivors include: eight children and spouses: David and Em DeBlauw, Rockford, Ill., Joan and Bill Ebbinga, Elkton, S.D.; Rose and Kenny Pinkelman, Wynot; Don and Dorothy DeBlauw, Healy, Alaska; Marvin DeBlauw, Hartington; Stanley and Rhonda DeBlauw, Kalispell, Mont.; Carol and Keith Becker, Emerson; Patty and Kelly Steffen, Hartington; 24 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; five sisters and husbands: Adelaide and Joe DeBlauw, Crofton; Clara Steffen, Cedar Bluffs; Sister Irma Steffen, Omaha; Barb and Irvin Arens, Randolph; Denelda and Leonard Potts, Crofton; three brothers and wives: Vic and Hilaria Steffen, Crofton; Ralph and Dorothy Steffen, Hartington; Clarence Steffen, Crofton.
