Dirks, 92, died Oct. 9, 1999, at Park View Haven Nursing Home, Coleridge. Visitation was Oct. 11, 1999, at the Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington. Funeral services were Oct. 12, 1999, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Coleridge, with Rev. Norman Sulaica officiating. Burial was in Lawn Ridge Cemetery, Coleridge. Pallbearers were Richard Janssen, Norman Vogle, Charles Vogle, Charlie Paulsen, Don Molden and Jeff Hartung. Honorary pallbearers were Dan Fiscus, Bruce Fiscus, Curtis Crandall, Bill Smith, Bob Steffen and Raymond Englehaupt. Elsie was born Nov. 4, 1906, to Gerd and Emma (Rodmer) Janssen in Hoskins. She married Benjamin H. Dirks Nov. 15, 1924, in Burke, S.D. He died Oct. 25, 1976. Elsie moved to Fairfax, S.D., as a child. After her marriage she and her husband operated a creamery in Fairfax, moved to Chicago for a short time and then lived and worked with the William and Mary Hines family for five years. They farmed in the Hartington and Laurel areas until purchasing a farm southeast of Hartington in 1949. She had been a resident of Park View Nursing Home since May 17, 1999. She delivered eggs for many years and participated in the Cedar County Fair until 1998. She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Coleridge, and was active in the Senior Citizens Centers in Hartington and Coleridge. Survivors include a daughter and husband, Carol Ann and Elden "Dusty" Dusterhoft, Norfolk; two grandchildren, Richard Dusterhoft, Norfolk, and Suzanne Dusterhoft, Wayne; a brother, Irvin Janssen, Fremont; two sisters, Mrs. Marvin (Goldie) Luikens, Norfolk; Lucille Engelhaupt, Spencer. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; four sisters, Louise Riehart, Ella Roberts, Helen Walker and Rosalla Smith; and two brothers, Carl Janssen and Alfred Janssen.
