This file was contributed for use in the NEGenWeb Archives by Carol Tramp Permission granted by: Rob Dump, Editor, Cedar County News ====================================================================== CEDAR COUNTY NEWS OCT 18, 1951 CHARLES DRIVER DIES INSTANTLY FORMER WYNOT MAN VICTIM OF ACCIDENT Wynot - Funeral services were held Friday at the Waterbury Methodist church for George Charles Driver, 73, Waterbury, a former resident of this community. Mr. Driver was killed instantly Tuesday last week when hit by a car driven by a man from West Liberty, Ia. He was walking along highway 20 near Waterbury and had started to cross the highway when he saw the car coming over the hill. The accident occured near the top of the hill and a curve may have obscured the vision of the two men, according to the Dixon County sheriff. Driver may also have become confused when he saw a truck approaching from the opposite direction. George Driver was born December 14, 1878 at St. Helena, the son of Tom and Mary Ann Driver. Most of his early life was spent in this community where his parents lived for many years. For the past 40 years he has lived in Waterbury. Mrs. Driver died in 1925. He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Calvin Orton of Emmetsburg, Ia. Several brothers preceeded him in death. Burial was in the cemetery in Martinsburg. Several nieces and nephews attended the funeral among whom were the following; Besides the sister, Mrs. Calvin Orton and her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Wilbur Orton, others were Mr. and Mrs. Art Driver, Mrs. Ella Whitney and son Bruce, Mr. and Mrs. Rudy Pederson of Allen and Mrs. George Pugsley of Newcastle.
