Mrs. Eby had been an invalid for several years and two weeks ago had suffered two strokes which ended in her death on Monday night, February 27, at the Randolph nursing home in Sioux City, where she was being cared for. Mrs. Eby, whose maiden name was Hazel Jones, spent her early girlhood in St. James having been born there June 4, 1883. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis E. Jones Jr. and was a descendent of early Cedar county settlers. Her maternal grandfather was Dr. H.E. McKenzie pioneer physician of this section and her paternal grandfather was Lewis E. Jones, sr. early mill owner and early day printer. Her father was one of the early day merchants and postmaster of St. James. Mrs. Eby was a graduate of Hartington High School and taught several terms of school, having taught three or four years in Wynot. She married Charles Eby of Hartington in 1914 and resided there many years. Her brother and three sisters Lewis Jones of Los Angeles, Mrs. R.K. David of Paulina, Ia., Mrs. H.A. Guffey of Sioux City and Mrs. Arthur Bond of Wynot were all present at the funeral. Thursday evening the brother and sisters from wynot attending the services were the Arthur Bond family, Mr. and Mrs. A.W. Jones, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Jones and Mrs. Jennie Jones and Lloyd Jones, Mr. H.J. Soneman and Mrs. Will Depue.
