Glidden, 64, died Nov., 14, 1998, at the University Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa, following a sudden illness. Services were Nov. 17 at United Methodist Church, Fayette, Iowa with Rev. Robert Koepke officiating. Burial was held at Grandview Cemetery, Fayette, Iowa. Pallbearers were Bill Prochaska, Dick Streeter, Bill Dohrmann, Dr. Ernie Dahlquist, Vic Crafton and Braulic Caballero. Richard Thomas Glidden, son of Thomas and Helen Gertrude Putt Glidden, was born Jan. 3, 1934, at Windom, Minn. He received his early education in the Windom Schools and graduated from Spencer High School, Spencer, Iowa, in 1951. He attended Buena Vista College, Storm Lake, Iowa, for one year prior to entering the U.S. Army. Following discharge, he attended Wayne State College, Wayne, where he received his B.A. and M.A. He later continued his education at the University of Wyoming, in Laramie, Wyo. He married Clarice Nelson, August 16, 1959, in Hartington. He began teaching at Bayard, Iowa, and later became principal at Cylinder, Iowa, and served as superintendent at Manilla and Ogden, Iowa, prior to moving to Fayette, where he served as superintendent from 1975 to 1984. Following the reorganization of the Fayette School District, Richard became principal of the Fayette and Hawkeye elementary schools within the North Fayette District. He retired from that position in June 1996. Richard was a member of the United Methodist Church of Fayette where he had served the church in many capacities over the years. He had also served on the board of the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Association, the Fayette Lions Club, served as chairman of the Fayette Tree Board, served in the Senior Health Insurance Information Program. Survivors include: his wife, Clarice, Fayette; one son, Todd Glidden, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; three daughters, Jane Whitaker, and husband, Charles Dixon; Miss Ann Platt and husband Lynn, Denison, Iowa; and Meg Glidden, West Des Moines, Iowa; six grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and two brothers, Robert Glidden, Clear Lake, Iowa; and Charles Glidden, Ventura, Iowa.
