Mass of Christian burial was June 19 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Harold Beerntsen officiating. Burial was at the St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery, Beaver Dam, Wis. Althea was born April 21, 1938, in Crofton to Arnold and Alma (Thunker) Bruns. Althea grew up and graduated from high school in Crofton and worked in the welfare office in Hartington. She married Melvin Gubbels Sept. 16, 1957, in Constance. Shortly after their marriage the couple moved to Beaver Dam area where Althea worked at Cranes Drug Store and the American National Bank. In 1986, they moved to Algoma, Wis., where she was employed by Wisconsin Label. They retired to Oconto Falls, Wis., area in 1996. Althea was currently a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Oconto Falls. While living in Beaver Dam she was an active member of St. Patrick's Catholic Parish. She enjoyed card playing, dancing, fishing and spending time with her grandchildren. Survivors are her husband, Melvin; their children and their spouses, Barbara Stegner; Gary and Brenda Gubbels, all of Beaver Dam, Wis.; Paul and Sue Gubbels, Abrams, Wis.; four granchildren, Melissa and her husband, Chris Holbus; Stacy Stegner; Sadie and Garrett Gubbels; three step-grandchildren, Noah, Jennah and Hannah Aplin; one great-grandson, Dillon Andrew Holbus; one brother and his wife, Marvin and Rose Bruns, Beaver Dam, Wis.; one sister and her husband, Jeanette "Bunny" and Ken Ward, Huntingdon, Tenn.; and a sister-in-law, Alexia Otterpohl, Hartington. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Russell in 1982; and an infant brother, James "Butch."
