Visitation was Jan. 5 at the Wintz Funeral Home, Crofton. Mass of Christian Burial was Jan. 6 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Crofton, with Rev. Bob English and Rev. Dan Guenther officiating. Burial was in St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Crofton. Pallbearers were David Boecker, Allen Boecker, Doug Arens, Troy Guenther, Tim Guenther, Jeremy Eskins, Ryan Kuehler, Jeff Guenther, Cameron Eskins, Taylor Guenther and Tanner Bates. Madeline was born Jan. 6, 1921, to Conrad and Marie (Jansen) Luft in Fordyce. She married Fred Guenther Sept. 1, 1941, in Constance. He died Nov. 18, 1990. She grew up in the Fordyce and Constance areas. After her marriage they farmed in the Crofton, Fordyce and Menominee areas. In 1978, they retired and moved to Crofton. She worked at Gurney's Seed and Nursery in Yankton from 1970 to 1993. She was a member of the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Christian Mothers, and Crofton American Legion Auxiliary Post # 128. Madeline enjoyed her flowers and attending the Senior Citizens Center. Survivors include eight children and spouses, Bonnie and Norbert Goeken, Norfolk; Almeda and LeRoy Arens, Fordyce; Gene and Cindy Guenther, Yankton, S.D.; Ken and Carol Guenther, Yankton, S.D.; Lila and Lorin Kuehler, Yankton, S.D.; Cynthia and Scott Mello, Yankton, S.D.; Don and Beth Guenther, Waverly; Carolyn and Rod Bates, Bronson, Iowa; 24 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Ed (Rita) Kesseler, Randolph; Mrs. Frank (Odelia) Langferman, Crofton. She was preceeded in death by her parents; husband; two grandchildren; Francis Boecker and Travis Bates; a great-grandson, Craig Schulte; and a brother, Leon Luft.
