This file was contributed for use in the NEGenWeb Archives by Carol Tramp ====================================================================== THE CEDAR COUNTY NEWS - 5-3-1923 Pioneer Woman dies at Omaha Monday Mrs. Elizabeth Gulde had been resident of county for over 50 years At the age of 83 years, Mrs. Elizabeth Gulde, for 53 years a resident of Cedar county passed away Monday morning at St. Joseph’s hospital in Omaha, where she was making her home with her daughter. This pioneer woman was born in Germany on June 13, 1840. In 1862 she came to America, settling first at Chicago. Here she was married to Michael C. Gulde who died on April 14, 1912. in an Omaha hospital and was buried here in Holy Sepulchre cemetery. Mrs. Gulde came to Cedar county in 1868 setttling first at St. Helean, being an active worker among the early pioneers to whose labors and sacrifices the early development of the county is due. In 1903 she moved to Hartington and was a resident here until 1921 when she moved to Omaha to make her home with her daughter. She is survived by six children, Charles of Beach, ND., Anthony of Madison, SD., Louis of Mission Hill, SD; Mrs. John Peters who lives north of Hartington; Mrs. Will Rupiper of Crofton’ and Sister Consalva of Omaha , with whom Mrs. Gulde has made her home for the past two years. The body was returned to Hartington for burial, the funeral services being held at Holy Trinity church on Wednesday morning, Rev. F. Schnuettgen conducting a requiem mass. Interment was in the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, besides her husband.
