Hames (PHOTO) CROFTON - Irene A. Hames, 86, Crofton, died Sept. 23, 2001, at Avera Sister James Care Center, Yankton, S.D. Visitation will be Sept. 26, from 3-9 p.m., with a vigil service at 7:30 p.m. and rosaries at 4:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. at the Wintz Funeral Home, Crofton. Mass of Christian Burial will be Sept. 27, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Crofton, with Rev. Bob English officiating. Burial will be at the St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Crofton. Pallbearers will be Roger Hames, Keith Hames, Joe Hames, Blake Arens, Ben Hellman, Rodney Hames, David Hames and Shawn Hames. Honorary pallbearers will be Sheri Dorcey, Deb Hames, Amy Hames, Lorie Summers, Emily Hames, Stacy Hellman, Michelle Hames and Cindy Shore. Irene was born April 3, 1915, to Boniface Benjamin "Ben" and Elizabeth (Foecke) Donner in Crofton. She married Walter G. Hames Feb. 7, 1939, in Crofton. He died Jan. 18, 1999. She grew up and lived in the Crofton area all of her life. She graduated from Crofton High School in 1933. They moved into Crofton in 1975. She worked in the cafeteria at Crofton Pulic School for eight years and was a resident of Avera Sister James Care Center since March 2000. She was a member of the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Crofton; Catholic Daughters of America; Christian Mothers; St. Rose Guild; and St. Rose Quilters Guild. Survivors include nine children and spouses, Ronald and Shirley Hames, Laurel; Francis and Sharon Hames, South Sioux City; Elwin and Amy Hames, Benicia, Calif; Larry and Irene Hames, Yankton , S.D.; David and Dee Hames, Yankton, S.D.; Marietta and Jim Arens, Norfolk; Daniel and Denise Hames, Avon, Ind.; Geralyn and Aaron Hellman, Tabor, S.D.; Kevin and Barbie Hames, Dallas, Texas; 31 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Paul and his wife Margaret Donner, Crofton; and Phil Donner, Crofton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter; infant daughter, Imelda Ann Hames; seven brothers, Ray, Francis, George, infant brother Ervin, Lawrence, Charles and Ralph Donner.
