Services were Nov. 29 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, St. Helena. Burial was at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery. Phyllis was born Oct. 29, 1931, to John and Myrtle (Harts) Schmidt. She grew up on a farm north of St. Helena. She attended St. Mary's Catholic School, St. Helena, and graduated from Yankton High School, Yankton, S.D. She married Paul Hewitson Aug. 25, 1969. She worked at JJ Newberry's, McElvoy's Clothing Store and the South Dakota Human Services Center, Yankton. She moved to Phoenix, Ariz., in 1964, where she worked at Good Samaritan Hospital for 26 years, retiring in 1993. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Scottsdale, Ariz. She returned to South Dakota Oct. 30 to live with her brother, Virgil. She entered Wakonda Heritage Manor Nov. 23. She is survived by her husband, Paul Hewitson, Scottsdale, Ariz.
