Visitation was Nov. 26 at Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington with a vigil service held that evening at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Wynot. Mass of Christian Burial was held Nov. 27 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Wynot, with Rev. Jay Kruse officiating. Burial was held at the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Wynot. Pallbearers were Craig Promes, Chris Promes, Carey Promes, Curt Promes, Becky Hochstein, Crissy Hochstein, Carol Esser and Lisa Eide. Fritz was born Dec. 20, 1910, to John and Rose (Schulte) Hochstein in Wynot. He married Zita Kathol Oct. 13, 1936, in Bow Valley. He grew up in Wynot, after his marriage they moved to Oakland, Calif., returning to Wynot in 1945 where he farmed until retiring and moving into Wynot in 1968. He worked for the Village of Wynot for several years and was a member of the Wynot Fire Department from 1968 until 1981. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Choir in Wynot. He joined the Knights of Columbus in 1928 and was Grand Knight in 1955. He had been a resident of Park View Haven Nursing Home since July 1999. Survivors include his wife, Zita, Wynot; four children and spouses, Donna Criner, Las Vegas Nev.; Sharon and Ervin Promes, Carroll, Iowa; James and Marilyn Hochstein, Des Plaines, Ill.; Randy Hochstein, Minneapolis, Minn.; a daughter-in-law, Arlyce Hochstein, Wynot; 16 grandchildren; 22 great- grandchildren; two brothers, John Hochstein, Wayne; Donald Hochstein, Hartington; five sisters, Viola Lammers, Yankton, S.D.; Dolores Abbott, Ore.; Rosine Pinkelman, Omaha; Mrs. Don (Freda) Hoss, LeMars, Iowa; and Mrs. Ralph (Mary) Wieseler, St. Helena. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Larry; son-in-law, Jack Criner; grandson, Donnie Criner; three brothers, Lawrence, Gilbert and Reynold Hochstein; two sisters, Sr. Rose Jean and Ruth Huennekens.
