He was 62 years old. He was born in Oldenburg, Germany, April 30, 1851, and came to America with his sister at the age of sixteen, and secured employment in Navine, Iowa. After two years he came to cedar county, purchased 160 acres of land, and the next year homesteaded the adjoining quarter section, where he resided until the time of his death. He was married in 1877 to Christina Foecke, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G.H. Foecke. He leaves a wife and nine children: Henry, living in Hartington; Frank, living north of Fordyce; Mrs. Steven Kaiser, living near Menominee; Joseph, William, John, Louis, August and Edward, all living close to the parental home. Two of their children are dead, Katherine who died at age ten, and Mrs. John Lattman, who died November 23, 1911. The funeral was held Bow Valley church at 10:00 o'clock Monday. Reverend Biernbach officiating, and the remains were interred in the Bow Valley cemetery. He was a man of the highest integrity, a good neighbor, and an excellent citizen. He is sincerely mourned by all who were so fortune as to know him.
