Lauer (PHOTO) HARTINGTON - Donald H. Lauer, 70, Hartington, died June 30, 2001, at his home in rural Hartington. Visitation was held July 2 at Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington, with a rosary held later that evening. Mass of Christian Burial will be July 3, at 10:30 a.m., at Holy Family (Sts. Peter and Paul) Catholic Church, Bow Valley, with Rev. Ross Burkhalter officiating. Burial will be at St. Michael's Cemetery, Hartington. Pallbearers are Jeff Kathol, Dan Leader, Kevin Wiepen, Bob Adam, Steve Lauer, and Mike Jackson. Donald was born May 15, 1931, to Susann B. (Kleinschmit) and John M. Lauer in Hartington. He attended Northwest Star School and grew up in the Fordyce area. He married Elsie Hesse July 2, 1953, in Bow Valley. He lived, farmed and ranched in the Bow Balley and Wynot area for 40 years. He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Bow Valley. Survivors include his wife, Elsie, Hartington; seven children and their spouses: Mary and Jim Neiman, Coleridge; Jean and Curtis Royer, Norfolk; Joan and Ron Brodersen, Hartington; Cheryl and Gary Rensch, Sioux Falls, S.D.; Diane and Dave Rogers, Chaska, Minn.; Ron and Carmen Lauer, Hartington; and Carol and Claire Wieseler, Bennet; twenty grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; five sisters and their spouses: Lillian Kathol, Hartington; Darlene Schmidt, Hartington; Rita and Dallas Leader, Hartington; Irma Jean and Francis Wiepen, St. Helena; Donna Mae and Steve Adam, Tabor, S.D.; and a brother and his wife, Larry and Kathy Lauer, Hartington. He was preceded in death by his parents; and infant brother, Frederic; and infant sister, Grace; a son, John, in 1979; and a grandson, Jack Lauer, in 1993.
