This file was contributed for use in the NEGenWeb Archives by Carol Tramp Permission granted by: Rob Dump, Editor, Cedar County News ====================================================================== CEDAR COUNTY NEWS JAN. 28, 1926 JOHN LEADER CALLED TO HIS LAST REWARD PROMINENT FARMER DIES AT HOME AT CONSTANCE LAST TUESDAY John Leader one of the earliest pioneers of this section, passed away last Tuesday night at his home near Constance, death being caused by cancer, which he has been suffering for several months. Mr. Leader was born at Pottersville, Penns., in October, 1860, but came west with his parents in 1867. His father settled on the Green Island Bottom, just west of the Cedar County line, and homesteaded there. His son made that his home until last March, when he moved to the farm near Constance. Mr. Leader has engaged in farming practically all his life, altho as a boy in his 'teens he spent some time working on the boats on Missouri River, making trips from St. Louis to Bismark. He was a progressive farmer, and operated the first steam threshing machine ever owned in his part of the country. He had a great reputation as a mechanical genius. On November 27, 1894 he was united in marriage to Miss Mary A Thomann in a ceremony at the Constance Church. His wife and nine children survive him. The children are Mrs. Albert Smith, and Mrs. Arthur Meier of Menominee, Mrs. Henry Morman, who lives north of Crofton, Misses, Edna and Clara Leader, at home, Henry Leader of Menominee, and Martin, Robert, and John who are at home; Two sisters, Mrs. Dell Cross and Mrs. Elva Everton of Crofton, also survive him. Funeral services are to be conducted from the Constance Church at 10:00 o'clock Friday morning, and will be in charge of Rev. Father Pieper. Interment will be in the Constance Cemetery.
