JAN. 31, 2001 Marvin "Bob" Lentz (PHOTO) HARTINGTON - Marvin "Bob" Lentz, 81, died Jan. 27, 2001, at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton, S.D. Visitation was Jan. 29 at the Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington. Funeral services were Jan. 30 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Hartington, with Rev. Paul Reimers officiating. Burial was in the Hartington City Cemetery, Hartington, with military services conducted by the Hartington VFW Post #5283. Pallbearers were Aaron Lentz, Adam Lentz, Chad Uhing, Bruce Uhing, Mick Wiebelhaus, Kenny Wiebelhaus, Amy Uhing and Heather Dietz. Honorary pallbearers were Norvel and Ann Lentz, Don and Carol Bruning, Kenny and Charlotte Pick, Tim and Claudette Jensen, Irvin and Ceil Lentz, Ike and Bernice Stratman, Jo Raduechel, Bill and Loretta Hahn, Florence Lentz and Merle and Loretta Wohlmann. Bob was born July 6, 1919, to Edward and Clara (Haase) Lentz in Hartington. He married Joan Kathol Stevens May 16, 1946, in Wynot. He grew up and lived in the Hartington area all of his life. He graduated from Hartington High School. He served in the Navy as a Gunner's Mate First Class on the U.S.S. Haynsworth. He participated in the African, Okinawa and Philippine invasions during WWII. He farmed east of Hartington. He also worked at Prince Hydraulic in Hartington for nine years. He loved his family, walking, working and playing cards. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hartington and a life member of the Hartington VFW Post #5283. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. Survivors include his wife, Joan, Hartington; five children and spouses, Claudette and Jerry Uhing, Hartington; Randy Lentz, Fort Collins, Colo.; Debra Lentz, Denver, Colo.; Tom and Dawn Lentz, Manitowish Waters, Wis.; Scott and Bonnie Lentz, Madison; nine grandchildren; two brothers, Ray and Frances Lentz, Laurel; Harvey and LaVern Lentz, Bella Vista, Ark.; a sister, Marva Lea and Ed Brown, Paulina, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Keith Lentz; two brothers, Edwin and Duane Lentz; and a sister, Mildred Lentz.
