She had been ill several years. Death was caused by heart failure. Rev. H. Niederwimmer of Cole- ridge officiated at the last rites and burial was in the Harting- ton city cemetery under dir- ection of Smith Funeral home. Pallbearers were George Meng- shol, Chet Peters, Albert Tweedy, Jim Kopetka, Frank Lindemann and Herbert Bottolfsen. Mrs. Mathews is survived by and Mrs. Arthur Bottolfsen of three daughters, Mrs. John Hash Hartington, and Mrs. Roy Peck of Coleridge; one son, Lt. Jim Mathews of Patterson, N.J. and ten grandchildren. She leaves two sisters, Mrs. Jim Wade of Fre- mont and Mrs. Verdia Martins of Lake Mills, Ia., and five broth- ers, Clark, John, Lawrence, Clar- ence and Charles Curtis, all of Omaha. The daughter of Alonzo and Harriet Curtis, was born at Ver- digre January 14, 1882. She was married to Charles Albert Math- ews at Center September 26, 1897. They farmed near Magnet and Crofton before moving to Hartington in 1918. Mr. Math- ews died January 5, 1942. Five children also preceded Mrs. Mathews in death. Among those from out-of-town who attended the last rites were: Mr. and Mrs. Jim Wade, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Wade of Fremont; Mrs. Paul Riley and Mr. and Mr. and Mrs. John Curtis and Char- Mrs. Arthur Wade of Topeka, les Curtis of Omaha; Mr. and Kans.; Mrs. Charles Richardson and Jim Kopetka of Lincoln; Rev. and Mrs. Lynn Nichols and children of Pender, and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Peck and Don of Cole- ridge.
