McGregor (PHOTO) HARTINGTON - Edward F. McGregor, 86, died March 17, 2000, at Mercy Medical Center, Sioux City, Iowa. Visitation was March 19 at the Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington. A vigil service was held later that evening at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Hartington. Mass of Christian Burial was March 20 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Hartington, with Rev. William Sanderson and Monsignor Cyril Werner officiating. Burial was in St. Michael's Cemetery, Hartington. Pallbearers were Scott McGregor, Todd McGregor, Keith McGregor, Jim McGregor, Mark McGregor, Tom McGregor, Steve McGregor, Ryan McGregor, Bill McGregor, Ross McGregor, Craig Moore and Doug Moore. Honorary pallbearers were Gene Burbach, Jerry Litz, Pat Guy, Gerry Stevens, Don Flakus, Joe Schaefer, Gerald Burbach and Duke Walz. Edward was born March 31, 1913, to Edward L. and Mathilda (Olsen) McGregor in Hartington. He married Cecelia M. Schwartz Feb. 24, 1936, in Hartington. He grew up in Hartington and graduated from Hartington Public High School in 1930. After his marriage he and Cecelia moved to the East Bow Community in Cedar County where he farmed for ten years. They then moved to the family farm east of Hartington. Ed farmed until retiring and moving into Hartington in 1974. Ed was especially proud of the family farm having been in the family for over 100 years. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and served on the parish council; participated in Perpetual Adoration for 38 years; was a member of the Ministry of Praise; served on the Paragon school board; the election board; and was a very active volunteer at the Senior Citizen Center and served on the site council committee. Survivors include his wife, Cecelia McGregor, Hartington; six children and spouses, Dean and Geralda McGregor, Hartington; Gary and Shirley McGregor, Hartington; Ellie McGregor, Yankton, S.D.; Elaine and Larry Moore, Fremont; Dave and Carol McGregor, Hartington; Cheri McGregor, Omaha; 23 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Archie and Ralph McGregor; and a sister, Nettie Schaeger.
