Morten (PHOTO) HARTINGTON - Robert J. Morten, 74, Hartington, died Dec. 17, 2000, at his residence. Visitation will be Dec. 20 from 1-9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service at the Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington. Funeral services will be Dec. 21, at 2 p.m., at First Congregational United Church of Christ, Hartington, with Rev. Robert Neu officiating. Burial will be in the Morten Family Cemetery, Hartington. Pallbearers will be Rob Morten, Jason Morten, Josh Morten, Cole Wiebelhaus, Brett Wiebelhaus and Brad Thomas. Honorary pallbearers will be Tyler Morten, Jennifer Thomas, Nicole Hegert, Samantha LaBrune, Morgan Hegert, Alex Wiebelhaus and Ross Wiebelhaus. Robert was born June 2, 1926, to Ralph and Alice Adeline (Johnston) Morten at Hartington. He grew up and lived on the same farm northeast of Hartington where he farmed his entire life. Robert also did custom work and trucked. He graduated from Hartington High School in 1944. He married Doris Karnes April 3, 1945, in Yankton, S.D. He was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Hartington. Survivors include his wife, Doris Morten, Hartington; four children and their spouses, Monte and Diana Morten, Hartington; Pat and Rick LaBrune, Lincoln; Mary and Randy Wiebelhaus, Bow Valley; Dawn and Paul Hegert, Eagle; twelve grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Marjorie Goudy, Fairfield, Iowa; and one sister-in-law, Evelyn Morten, Hartington. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Claude Morten and Ralph Morten; and one great-grandson, Benjamin Morten.
