Memorial Services were held Oct. 17 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Wynot, with Rev. Jay Kruse officiating. Ashes were interred at the Wynot City Cemetery, under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington. Don was born July 12, 1926, to Charles and Mabel R. (Henry) Newman, in Sioux City, Iowa. He married Donna Schroeder Sept. 10, 1948, in Stanton. Don lived in Sioux City, Iowa until moving to Wynot in 1939. He was a 1944 graduate of the Wynot High School. He served in the Navy from 1945 to 1946. He returned to Wynot and worked for the Wynot Telephone Co. He later became the manager and retired in 1976. Don and his wife Donna owned and operated Newman's Bar from 1962-1993. He was a member of the Wynot American Legion, Post #31, a former Wynot Town Board and School Board member. A former member of the United Methodist Church, and former member of the Wynot Volunteer Fire Department. Survivors include his wife, Donna, Wynot; five children and their spouses, Tom Newman, Sutton; Jane and Keith Strande, Sioux Falls, S.D.; Bob and Trixie Newman, Montevideo, Minn.; Nancee and Roman Sudbeck, Hartington; Kelly and Tom LeBlanc, Omaha; six grandchildren, Ryan and Nikki Newman, Ross, Rory, and Miles Sudbeck, and Kirby LeBlanc; two step-grandchildren, Andy and Laura LeBlanc; and a brother, Earl Newman, Primghar, Iowa. He was preceeded in death by his parents; and a sister, Edith Cole.
