JAMES PIONEER BORN IN GERMANY; FUNERAL FRIDAY Wynot - Anton Oswald, 81, pioneer of St. James vicinity died early Wednesday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. H.J. Sonneman, where he had made his home since the death of his wife in October 1930. His death was a shock to family and friends as he had been in very good health. Not hearing him move around early Wednesday morning, members of the family went to his room and found he had passed away in his sleep. Always interested in world events and the news of the day Mr. Oswald sadly missed his newspaper reading when he lost his eyesight nearly two years ago. Mr. Oswald was born in the province of Saxony, Germany, December 7, 1858. He was educated in Germany and grew to young manhood and was married there. Mr. and Mrs. Oswald were married March 14, 1881, and the following spring they set out for America coming directly to Cedar county and to this vicinity. Five of Mr. Oswald's brothers and sisters emigrated to the United States previous to this time, having come between the years 1857 and 1874. It was after coming to Cedar county that Mr. Oswald had one of his most unusual experiences, that of meeting his two oldest brothers who had come to America before he was born. His aged sister, Mrs. Theresa Harder, 84, lives in Wynot. After coming to Cedar county, Mr. and Mrs. Oswald lived for two years in the vicinity of the Jones Mill then built a comfortable home in St. James where they resided until Mrs. Oswald's death nine years ago. Mr. Oswald is survived by two daughters and one son: Ed Oswald, Falls City, Mrs. H.J. Sonneman, Wynot, with whom he has made his home, and Miss Emma Oswald who has been staying at the Sonnemans home to help care for her father. Also four grandchildren and his aged sister. Rudy Jenny at Hartington is a nephew of the deceased. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 pm Friday at Bethany Lutheran Church in Wynot with Rev. Robert Faulk, church pastor officiating. Interment will be made in the Wynot cemetery with the Jones Funeral home of Hartington in charge.
