Permission granted by: Rob Dump, Editor, Cedar County News ====================================================================== Cedar County News – 3-24-1932 Mrs. Anna Promes Succumbs Saturday Cedar County Pioneer Dies after Stroke; Funeral Tuesday Residence in Cedar County of 51 years duration was brought to an end last Saturday when Mrs. Anna Promes died at the home of a son John, northeast of Hartington. Death came to Mrs. Promes, who was 73 years old, following a stroke which occurred on March 12. Although she was conscious, Mrs. Promes was unable to talk after the first day, the paralysis affecting her whole right side and tongue. She appeared much better Tuesday of last week and hope was held for her recovery, but she failed rapidly in the subsequent days. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 10 at St. Peter and Paul Church in Bow Valley with Rev. Fr. Birnbach officiating. Pall-bearers were Joseph Uhing, Alphonse Uhing, Hugo Uhing, Joseph Promes, Louis Promes, and Arthur Promes, all of these being Mrs. Promes’ grandchildren. Burial was in Bow Valley cemetery. She is survived by seven children all living near Hartington and Wynot, including Mrs. Lizzie Pruss, Mrs. L.M. Uhing, Mrs. Herman Uhing, and Henry, John, Casper and Joseph Promes. She is also has one sister living in Germany and 30 grandchildren. Mrs. Promes was born Anna Diadem, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Anton Diadem in Oberalbaum, Germany, March 29, 1858. She was married to Casper Promes shortly before coming to America in April of 1881. After arriving here on May 20, the couple came immediately to Nebraska and settled in Cedar county. Mr. Promes died about 36 years ago. At the time of her death Mrs. Promes was living with her son John, and family on the old family place. During her long residence in the county Mrs. Promes took a great part with the rest of pioneers in the development of the land. She was liked and respected by everyone with whom she came into contact.
