MARY RITTER IS BURIED SUNDAY AGED WOMAN NEVER RECOVERED FROM BANDIT ATTACK IN 1933 WYNOT - Mrs. Mary Emma Ritter, 75, died at her home northeast of Wynot Wednesday evening, Sept. 26th, her death marking the passing of another of Cedar county's early residents. She has lived in the county almost half a century. Mary Emma Ripple was born in Kur-Hessen Germany, Feb. 19, 1859. She came to America in 1865 and settled in Lee County, Ill., where she lived for five years. Moving to Iowa, she lived in Benton county for a time and moved to Sac county in 1880 where in 1887 she was married to John Ritter, who died eight years ago. Shortly after her marriage, Mrs. Ritter located in Cedar County on the farm northeast of Wynot where she has since resided. Mrs. Ritter has been in poor health for several years and in May, 1933, was assaulted by two masked bandits who broke into her home in the night and choked her. Her throat was seriously injured and an x-ray examination later showed that her jaw had been broken. Because of her advanced age, she never recovered from the injury and shock. She is survived by two daughters and two sons, Mrs. Joe Brown, Mrs. Fred Williams and John Ritter of Wynot and Charles Ritter of Sioux City. There are also 10 granchdildren, 13 great-grandchildren, four sisters and six brothers. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon from the Methodist church in Wynot by Rev. S.A. Draise of Maskell. She had been a member of the Methodist church for 17 years. Pallbearers were Merritt Smith, G.A. Snowe, Will Schaller, Louis Radke, P.H. Lauritzen and L.A. Lauritzen. Relatives from a distance attending the funeral included Mr. and Mrs. John Roth and J.A. Richardson of Wall Lake, Ia., Mr. and Mrs. Fred Werkmister, of Early, Ia., Mr and Mrs. Will Ripple of Lake Lillian, Minn., and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ritter of Sioux City.
