This file was contributed for use in the NEGenWeb Archives by Carol Tramp Permission granted by: Rob Dump, Editor, Cedar County News ====================================================================== THE CEDAR COUNTY NEWS - December 05, 1940 Wynot Girl killed in flaming wreck Bealuh Rogers, 23, and three others died when car hits truck Wynot- Miss Bealuh Rogers 23, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Rogers of Wynot, met a tragic death early Saturday morning near Atkinson when the automobile which she was riding with three other young people crashed into the rear of a parked grain track and instantly burst into flames, preventing any attempt at a rescue. The group including besides Miss Rogers, Miss Frances Muellen, 23, Atkinson, A.W. Johnson, 24, O'Neill, and Matthew Brophy, 25, also of O'Neill, were returning from Stuart where they had gone on Friday evening. All were burned to death. The truck driver said he had parked to the side of the highway after his truck ran out of gasoline. He had set out the flares and was waiting for his companion to return from Atkinson were he had gone after fuel. Worked in Sioux City Bealuh Arlene Rogers, who was employed in a café at O'Neill, was born August 6, 1917 at Keller the , on a while. She came with their parents to Nebraska in 1930, living for a time at Belden before coming to Wynot where the family has since resided. She was employed in Sioux City before going to O'Neill. Funeral services were held at the Wynot Methodist church Monday afternoon with Reverend Frank Jackson officiating. A ladies' quartet composed of Mrs. Ina Depue, Mrs. Art Bond, Mrs. H.J. Sonneman, and Mrs. H.J. Morton, with Mrs. C.A. Gosting at the piano. Pallbearers, some of whom were schoolmates when Miss Rogers attended Wynot public school were Ervin and Ralph Kleinberg, Donald Ardnt, Louie Peters, Lloyd Schaller and Glenn Mathers. Burial was in the Wynot cemetery under the direction of the Jones funeral home. Survivors include the parents, Mr. And Mrs. William Rogers of Wynot, and nine sisters and brothers, Mrs. Earl Williams, Corydon, Iowa; Mrs. A.B. Carmony, Page; Mrs. Ralph Wilson, Wichita, Kans; George of Sioux city; William jr. of Ottawa; and Betty, Verlea, Orlan, and Buddy of Wynot. Relatives attend funeral A large crowd of relatives and friends from various points in Iowa and Nebraska were in for the funeral, among whom were the following; Mrs. Earl Anderson, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Wilson and son, Dickie, of Wichita, Kansas, Mr. And Mrs. A age, Mrs. Susie Partridge, Mr. William Rogers Jr. of Onawa Iowa, Mrs. Elmer Williamson and son, and Mrs. Helen Matschullat, of Page, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Bomar and son, Mr. And Mrs. Harold to the , Larry Engel, Mrs. Will O'Neal, Mrs. Frank McDonald, and Mrs. Amen Ramdin all of Sioux city, Mrs. Henry Brandt, Mrs. Mattie Smith, Mrs. Ida Thompson, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Thadden all of Randolph, Nebr. Mrs. Dorothy Patterson, Wichita, Kansas, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Simons of Wisner and Mr. And Mrs. Arvin Wascher, Wisner.
