Sage CROFTON - Doris E. Sage, 76, Crofton, died March 29, 1999, at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton, S.D. Visitation was at the Wintz Funeral Home, Crofton. Services were at March 31 at the Wintz Funeral Home, Crofton, with the Rev. Gary Kimm officiating. Burial was in the Crofton City Cemetery. Pallbearers were Doyle Sage, Steve Kuehler, Mark Kuehler, Ron Florke, Keith Clark and Rick Coughlin. Doris was born July 22, 1922, in Bay County, Mich., to Henry and Helen (Gagner) Trombley. She grew up in Bay City, Mich., and graduated from Bay City Central High School in 1941. She married Don R. Sage Oct. 3. 1941, in Bay City. He died Feb. 23, 1969. Doris worked in defense plant during WWII making airplane parts. They moved back to the Midwest in 1946. In 1956, they moved to Crofton, and she worked at Gurney's Seed and Nursery in Yankton, S.D., for 15 years. She was a member of the Ladies' Aid at the United Church of Christ, Crofton. She was also a former member of the We-Fu Extension Club and a former Girl Scout leader. She is survived by six children: Donna and Gary Evans, Crofton; Delores R. Watkins, Sioux City, Iowa; Danny and Brenda Sage, Crofton; Dianne Sage, Crofton; Darlene and Ron Florke, Sioux City, Iowa, Dawn and Rick Coughlin, Allendale, Mich.; nine grandchildren; two great- grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Wallace (Louise) Pierce, Seattle, Wash.; and Nancy Montgomery, Bay City, Mich. She was preceeded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Richard and Leo "George" Trombley; and two sisters, Berniece Rice and Claire Goulette.
