Schieffer HARTINGTON - Joseph W. Schieffer, 97, Hartington, formerly of Crofton, died Dec. 17, 2000, at Beverly Healthcare, Hartington. Visitation will be Dec. 20 from 3-9 p.m., with a vigil service held at 7:30 p.m. at the Wintz Funeral Home, Crofton. Visitation on Dec. 21 will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church. Mass of Christian Burial will be Dec. 21, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Constance, with Rev. Bob English officiating. Burial will be held at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Constance. Pallbearers will be Steve Walz, Scott Walz, Galen Foxhoven, Brian Woockman, Craig Schieffer and Corey Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe DeBlauw, Sal Bockholt, Gerald Foxhoven, Paul Donner, John Leader, Walter Steffen and Don Lammers. Joseph was born Oct. 18, 1903, to John and Katherine (Schumacher) Schieffer in Constance. He married Irma Willenbring April 23, 1929. She died Dec. 26, 1984. Joseph grew up in the Constance area and attended grade school in Constance. He farmed southwest of Constance all of his life, until entering Beverly Healthcare, Hartington, January of 1997. He was a charter member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Constance. Survivors include eleven children, Anita Hoebelheinrich, Rupert, Idaho; Jan Walz, Hartington; Mardie Geritz, Prescott, Ariz.; Laurie Johnson, Omaha; Richard Schieffer, Maple Plain, Minn.; Dr. Rodney Schieffer, Olathe, Kan.; Jo Peterman, Davis, Calif.; Dr. Larry Schieffer, Bedord, Texas; Lonnie Schieffer, Fordyce; Charles Schieffer, Thousand Oaks, Calif.; Carlie Campbell, Burley, Idaho; 35 grandchildren and 19 great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one son-in-law, one daughter- in-law, two sisters and three brothers.
