This file was contributed for use in the NEGenWeb Archives by Carol Tramp Permission granted by: Rob Dump, Editor, Cedar County News ====================================================================== CEDAR COUNTY NEWS - MARCH 8, 1923 LUTHER SHEPARDSON DIED LAST SATURDAY RESIDENT OF HARTINGTON FOR SEVENTEEN YEAR PASSES, AN OLD TIME PRINTER Luther Nelson Shepardson, a resident of Hartington for the past 17 years, passed away suddenly at the home of his mother, Mrs. A.V. Shepardson, following a cerebral hemorrhage suffered last Saturday afternoon while putting bread into the oven. Mr. Shepardson was aged 53 years and ten months. Born in Oswego, NY, on April 25, 1869, he came when a small child to Nebraska, the family settled in Platsmouth and later moved to Omaha, where his father secured employment as a printer. While on an errand to the office where his father was employed in Omaha, at the age of ten years, he was caught in the machinery in a hot-air engine then used to operate the printing presses receiving injuries which affected his health during the remainder of his life time. But he was able to learn the trade, followed by his father, and was employed in many offices thruout northeast Nebraska at various times, until 1906 when he came to Hartington to again make his home with his mother. A great lover of flowers his garden was neat and well tended and furnished many beautiful flowers for friends and acquaintances. Following a short service at the house, the funeral was held from the Congregational church on Tuesday afteroon, Rev. S.A. Willard conducting the service. Burial was in the Hartington cemetery. Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Agnes V. Shepardson, three brothers, James and Archie at home and Wilbur D. Of Buena Vista, Colo., two nieces, Miss Hazel Eaton, of Hartington and Miss Edna N. Shepardson, Homer and a nephew, Ivin D. Eaton, Ansley, NE.,
