Snowe, 86, was found dead in bed Monday morning [January 26, 1959] at his home here by his daughter- in-law. He apparently died in his sleep. He had been in his usual health except for failing eyesight, and had visited in a nearby town a day or so before. Mr. Snowe, a lifelong resident of the community except for a year spent in Oelrichs, SD, was born March 10, 1872 on his father's homestead south and east of Wynot, the son of Jackson and Sarah Rice Snowe, early settlers of Cedar Co. who came here about 1869. His early life was spent on his father's farm and he and his brothers herded cattle when the county was for miles around nothing but prairie. He was married March 30, 1904 to Kate Gray. They farmed south and east of Wynot for many years. In the fall of 1926 they moved to Wynot where Mrs. Snowe died April 8, 1956. Survivors include: two sons, Frank, Wynot, and Fred, Maskell. One sister, Florence Snowe, and one brother, Leon, both of Kennebec, SD., one step-sister, Mrs. Jess (Myrtle) Gregg, Hartington and several grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at the Methodist Church. JANUARY 1959 CEDAR COUNTY NEWS
