He came to Iowa in 1861. He served in the Fifteenth Iowa Infantry during the Civil war. Mr. Snowe was married to Sarah E. Rice at Monticello, IA in 1865. He came to Cedar Co., NE in 1870. He located on a farm two miles south of St. James, where he resided until his death, which occured on Monday evening December 9, 1907. Eight Children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Snowe, seven boys and one girl all of whom are living except for Marion who died at the age of twenty. The remaining family mourns the loss of a loving husband and father, Mrs. Snowe was prostrated at the death of her husband and still is very ill. The deceased was one of the pioneers of this section of Cedar County. He had a large acquaintance and was greatly loved and respected by all who knew him. The funeral was held from the Methodist Church on Wednesday being conducted by Rev. Moore, an old pastor. It was one of the largest funerals ever held in the vicinity, there being nearly one hundred teams in the funeral cortege. Friends came from miles around to pay their last respects to an honored neighbor and friend. Interment was held at St. James Cemetery. DECEMBER 1907 CEDAR COUNTY NEWS NOTE: JACKSON SNOWE IS ACTUALLY BURIED IN THE WYNOT PUBLIC CEMETERY NEXT TO HIS WIFE. THE GRAVES FROM THE ORIGINAL ST. JAMES PUBLIC CEMETERY WERE ALL RELOCATED TO THE WYNOT PUBLIC CEMETERY. THE PRESENT DAY "ST. JAMES CEMETERY" IS ACTUALLY THE CATHOLIC CEMETERY OF THE FORMER SS. PHILIP & JAMES CHURCH OF ST. JAMES, NE.
